Forest Kindergarten

Here is an article and video explaining how a Danish Forest Kindergarten works. Basically, the children are allowed to run around and play, while guided by staff members to make sure they don't get into too much trouble. While it may seem dangerous, the children learn to take risks and become confident. As an added bonus: climbing trees are free; fancy playground equipment is not!

Fleet Farming in Orlando

Fleet Farming is an organization in the Orlando area that gets people to donate parts of their lawns to be turned into miniature fields for crop growing. These "farmlettes" are then maintained and harvested by a fleet of cyclists!

From their page:

Fleet Farming strives to reduce the environmental impact of food production through a pedal-powered, hyperlocal urban farming model that creates a culture of health and vibrant ecosystems by: teaching an intergenerational fleet of volunteers how to grow their own food, activating and re-engaging the community through biweekly Swarm Rides, and creating a breathe free and biodiverse environment through emissions-free, organic farming.

People-Powered Theme Park

This is an amazing theme park; all the rides were built "homemade" and even more exciting is that they are all powered by people. As the creator Bruno Ferrin says "if you want to play you have to push and sweat." Amazing!
Places like this encourage adults to play too, and to top it all off, it's free!
